Time

"Don't count every hour in the day, make every hour in the day count."

I grew up in a house where my mother would always tell me "if your bored, your boring." When I was younger, when I was bored, I went to a friends house and we played with barbies or we rode are bikes, maybe played the Atari, we played dress up and make believe and we did it for hours. I didn't have a lot of friends, but enough to keep me occupied. I remember playing basketball with rocks, but only once. The lesson learned that day was "don't play basketball with rocks! Ouch, it hurt. I remember going out to the backyard and digging for worms, making things blow up, sticking the cat in the mailbox for the mailman to find or putting smoke bombs in the box for the mailman to find, making stink bombs...
I am now 35 years old, I have 2 young children of my own, they are 9 and 7 years old. They are constantly bored. Never mind the fact that they have a Wii, a nintendo ds for each of them, computer with internet, they do have neighborhood friends, but nope still bored. So, I have taught them my mothers wise life lesson, "if your bored, your boring."
My point in all of this, today I was bored. Really, really bored. I am training for my 6th ultra marathon, my new hobby in swimming is going well, I just lap swam for the 9th time, swimming 2.27 miles. But, on days when I am not exercising, not going to the store, not doing the ever so routine activities of being a house wife, I don't know what to do with my self. Even the idea of vacuuming is boring.....I can't get out of my ruts. I am bored all day, I tried to pick up my book, but only succeeded in reading a few pages. When my girls got home and my 7 year old found out how bored I was, she said "your boring!" Yup, that pretty much sums it up. I guess, I can be boring.
Do I have a solution, does my sob story have a happy ending? Sure, I am in my early stages of training and the training runs will get longer, keeping me away from the house longer, sure it's almost June and the kids will be home all day, every day, making me wish it were September. Their summer calender is filling it up with all their little activities, a family reunion, trip to Sunriver. I bet my husband, who will read this, will love it if I announced I was getting a job. But doing what? Will it be exciting? How about a career in running shoe testing?
I hope to teach my girls some day that not doing anything is okay, you can be bored and still. It is okay.
As of right now, I am doing one of my loves, writing. I have realized my blog was looking a little desperate. I am listening to my Ipod, my husband is installing our den floor, kids are away. I'm content.
But what about tomorrow?
"When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened."
I certainly hope to be one of those people who make things happen. But, honestly I have a ways to go to get to that goal. ~If I'm being honest.

Sometimes I wish that I wouldn't let her dress herself. Today she is wearing a min with a tank top, black stretch pants with knee high socks. What Naomi is doing, I don't know. Silly girls!!

Ouch!

Kayla came home from school the other day with a band aid on her chin and I couldn't help but laugh at her. Turns out it was just a tiny scratch as well. She has an obsession with band aids.

Muffns

Homemade and delicious blueberry, raspberry and blackberry muffins.
And so yummy!

Swimming

The other day I swam 80 laps or 2.27 miles. It took me exactly 2 hours. It was the 7th trip to the pool to do lap swimming and the furthest I've gone. The first time I did 20, then 30, 50, 60, 70 and finally 80. I have completely conquered "the flip" I am very proud of my accomplishments and know that they are rare. Rare that I have swam this far with no training and on my 7th time. The long distance running background has helped a great deal with the endurance part of it and my will to succeed has also made it happen. I do however think that I have reached my limit for now. I probably should stick at 80 laps for awhile till I get used to it more and faster. I am pretty beat today. I think swimming that distance is the equivalent to running 24 miles on the trail. The other good news is that I bought new Speedo goggles, I shall look like a fly buzzing around the pool. They are cool. I am hoping they will give me a more comfortable fit and not make it look like I've been punched in the eyes. Ouch!!!

Husband

The man can sleep anywhere! He's fallen asleep on the floor at my parent's house with 8 loud children around him. But I need earplugs and a sleeping pill so that I won't hear him snoring.

The cat

Lazy cat! He's always hungry, even has a belly that jiggles.

Tree

There's this tree on one of my running routes.
I absolutely love it!
It looks like a great place to sit or play in.

Softball

Naomi played this team last year, they were a Christian team. I absolutely loved seeing them pray at the end, he said it was their ritual. Very nice.

Silly Naomi

Naomi loves to be silly, listen at the end. (She farts) She dies laughing every time she sees this.

Cutie Miss K

She is a good little model and yes she knows she is cute~

Swinging

Skipping

Kayla's new dress

I laughed at it at first. But it has since grown on me. I have taken over a dozen photgraphs of her in it.

Raccoon danger?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltA50HKyM14&feature=related

Watch this commercial from Kay Jewelers. I said to Brett "in our family, You'd be pushing me in front of the danger to protect you" and we both laughed.

One night we were awfully concerned about a raccoon that was running around our property and in to the garage. We went out into the garage "carefully" to see if it was out there. Brett was holding a baseball bat and I had nothing. We were looking around the garage and all of a sudden our cat leaps into the garage from the dog door and he totally screams and pushes me in front of him to protect him!!!

We laughed so hard. But he is always like that, if he thinks he hears a funny noise, he wakes me up to go investigate. Big Baby!!!

He says that he would rather sacrifice me than himself. NIce!!

Softball is a great game. Very fun to watch. Brett is the coach for Kayla's team. Naomi also has a fantastic coach, very nice guy. Kayla's team uses the tee if they don't hit off the coach and they are not allowed to steal bases. However on Naomi's team, the girls pitch at first and then the coach will step in after a few pitches and they get to steal.

Kayla in her Heeley's

Kayla bought with her birthday money, Heeley's. She loves them. It didn't take her long to learn how to use them, now she wears them everyday. Even wore them to the mall, of course.

Swim and fast challenge news

Today I swam 50 laps or 1.42 miles in the pool. It was my 3rd time lap swimming this year and the furthest that I have ever gone. I looked cute in my pink swimming cap and wore a different pair of goggles. The others were way too tight, leaving my eyes looking bruised.
I don't think I am a fast swimmer, but it's easy for me. The runner part of me helps with the endurance, I have not been tiring easily. I practiced breathing on both sides, I normally do my left, but I was practicing with my right as well, wasn't easy at first, but I go the hang of it. I think 50 laps was enough for today.
I sat in the hot tub after my swim and felt good, tired but good. I look forward to my swim on Thursday.
My no sugar fast has 1 more week. I am on my 3rd week of not eating sugar. I don't think I will be starting up my old habits, but keep the new. I feel better without consuming a lot of sugar. I feel more energized. Sugar is in everything, except for the homemade items and Stevia is a blessing. Of course there really is nothing wrong with enjoying a dessert once in awhile...

Naomi's experiment

Naomi has been dying to try an experiment.....Brett's memorial service will be next Thursday.
